Snail - Yellow Mystery (Pomacea diffusa)
The yellow mystery snail, also known as the gold or golden inca snail (Pomacea bridgesii), is a popular addition to many aquariums. It features a bright yellow shell and a light cream or white body. Growing up to 5 cm (2 inches) across, it acts as a peaceful, active scavenger that eats leftover food and algae.
Care and Requirements
- Tank Size: Minimum of 10 to 15 litres.
- Water Temperature: 20°C to 28°C.
- Water pH Level: 6.5 to 7.5 with adequate calcium for strong shell growth.
- Diet: Algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber.
- Tank Mates: Safe with peaceful fish, shrimp, and other non-aggressive species.
Behavior and Breeding
Air Breathing: They possess a siphon tube to breathe atmospheric air, meaning they occasionally climb to the surface.
Laying Eggs: Females lay distinct pinkish-white egg clutches above the waterline on the aquarium lid or glass, which hatch in 2 to 4 weeks.
