Tetra - Fire Ant (Hyphessobrycon myrmex)

Add a true collector’s piece to your aquascape. Sourced from the pristine, clear-water streams of the Rio Juruena basin in Brazil, the Fire Ant Tetra gets its unique name from the Greek word myrmex (meaning ant)—a nod to its petite adult size and the vibrant, insect-like red intensity it brings to shaded setups.
This species exhibits fascinating sexual dichromatism. While females and juveniles sport a subtle, elegant golden-yellow sheen, mature males mature into an incredibly intense, glowing reddish-orange body accented by a deep red head and silver-tinted eyes.
Because they are small and naturally a bit timid, Fire Ant Tetras are the perfect candidate for high-end planted aquariums and dedicated nano biotopes. They are incredibly peaceful, making them safe neighbors for other tiny fish and adult ornamental shrimp. Keeping them in a proper school completely transforms their behavior; a group of 6 to 10 or more will drastically boost their confidence, coaxing them out of the shadows to put on a glittering, fiery display in the middle water layers of your tank.

  • Fiery Color Transformation: Watch dominant males develop an astonishingly deep, glowing red hue that mimics a spark of fire.
  • Perfect Nano Size: Reaching only 3 cm maximum, they fit perfectly into smaller aquariums without outgrowing their welcome.
