Shrimp - Orange-Eye Blonde Tiger (Caridina mariae)
The Orange Eye Blonde Tiger shrimp is a selective-bred dwarf shrimp with a opaque-light blue body, dark "tiger" stripes, and bright orange eyes, created from the Caridina mariae or Caridina cf. cantonensis species. It is a popular aquarium species that thrives in stable, soft, acidic water with a pH between 6.0-7.0, a GH of 3-6, and a KH of 1-2. These omnivorous shrimp are scavengers that feed on algae, biofilm, and commercial pellets, and can be kept with peaceful, small fish or other shrimp like cherry shrimp.
Key Features:
- Tiger shrimp have a peaceful and non-aggressive temperament, making them excellent for community aquariums with other peaceful creatures. They are active, social, and thrive in groups.
- Temperament - good tiger shrimp tank mates are peaceful invertebrates like amano and ghost shrimp, and snails (nerite, mystery, Malaysian trumpet)
- Moderate-friendly care level
- Maximum size: 2.5cm
- Ideal water temperature: 18.0°C - 24.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.0
A basic tiger shrimp shrimp tank setup requires a 30-60L tank with a sponge filter, a heater and thermometer to maintain stable temperature, a live-plant substrate or coarse gravel. Live plants and ornaments are welcomed as the shrimp like to have many surfaces to forage.
