Shrimp - Mosura Blue Bolt (Caridina sp. 'Mosura Blue Bolt')
Caridina shrimp are a genus of freshwater aquarium shrimp, known for their vibrant colors and sensitivity to water conditions. They are omnivorous filter feeders that require soft, acidic water, with specific parameters. Popular varieties include Crystal Red, Crystal Black, and Tiger shrimp, and while they are challenging to keep, they can be very rewarding for hobbyists.
Key Features:
- Caridina shrimp have a peaceful and non-aggressive temperament, making them excellent for community aquariums with other peaceful creatures. They are active, social, and thrive in groups
- Temperament - good caridina shrimp tank mates are peaceful invertebrates like amano and ghost shrimp, and snails (nerite, mystery, Malaysian trumpet)
- Advanced-friendly care level
- Maximum size: 2.5cm
- Ideal water temperature: 18.0°C - 24.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 6.5
A Caridina shrimp tank requires specific water parameters—including soft water with a low pH (6.0-6.8) and low hardness (GH 4-6, KH 0-2)—and a stable temperature between 18-24c. The setup should use an active (buffering) substrate, a quality filter like a matten filter, and distilled or RO water remineralized to a TDS of 100-200 ppm. A minimum tank size of 30L is recommended to help maintain stable conditions. Caridina shrimp thrive with natural decor like driftwood, mosses and live plants that provide hiding spots, reduce stress, and promote the growth of biofilm, their primary food source.
