The Deepwater Creek rainbowfish is a vibrant, naturally occurring color variant of the Eastern Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia splendida splendida), native to the Deepwater Creek area in Queensland, Australia. It is a popular, active, and generally peaceful community fish in the aquarium hobby.
Key Features:
- They are social, schooling fish and should be kept in groups of six or more to ensure healthy social interaction and encourage males to display their best colors.
- Temperament - due to their peaceful nature, they are suitable for community tanks with other non-aggressive species that share similar water requirements, such as various tetras and danios

Replicate their natural habitat with a mix of dense planting and open swimming areas. A tight-fitting lid is essential as they are known to be excellent jumpers. In the wild, they are found in freshwater streams and creeks, thriving in areas with abundant vegetation.
