The black-banded rainbowfish (Melanotaenia nigrans) is a popular, peaceful, and active freshwater fish native to Northern Australia, known for its distinctive dark mid-lateral stripe and iridescent colors. Males are typically more colorful and have deeper bodies and larger fins, especially during breeding.

- They are peaceful community fish and are best kept in a group of six or more to encourage natural schooling behavior and optimal color display.

Spacious aquarium with plenty of open swimming area. Moderate to strong water flow. Include plants around the edges but leave center open. Hardy plants like Vallisneria work well. Good lid essential as they can jump.
