Platy - Black (Xiphophorus maculatus)

Key Features:

• They are active, social, and peaceful fish that should be kept in groups with a ratio of at least two to three females for every one male to reduce harassment and promote harmony.
• They are generally peaceful and mix beautifully with other community fish, though males can sometimes display mild territorial chasing toward each other.
• Beginner-friendly.
• Maximum size: 4-7.5cm (females grow larger than males).
• Ideal water temperature: 20.0°C - 28.0°C
• pH range: 7.0 - 8.5
• They prefer a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots (hardy plants like Java Moss or Hornwort, caves, and driftwood) alongside a secure tank lid to prevent jumping. They thrive in moderately hard, alkaline water with standard community water flow.
