The African Water Fern (Bolbitis heudelotii) is a vibrant, hardy, and slow-growing freshwater plant known for its striking, deeply textured dark-green fronds and a brilliant, glowing translucent leaf structure that beautifully catches aquarium lighting. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.

- Generally adaptable, but they are steady, slow growers and known to suffer from rot if their rhizome is buried under substrate. Keeping the creeping rhizome completely exposed and attached to hardscape minimizes stress and prompts the plant to display its best natural, architectural foliage.

They do not require CO2 injection, though they will show much denser growth and deeper green coloration when provided with regular liquid fertilization.
