Corydoras - Smudge Spot (Hoplisoma similis)
The smudge spot cory (Hoplisoma similis) is a small, peaceful, and popular species of armored catfish in the aquarium hobby. It is also known as the violet cory due to the faint violet or bluish hue of its distinctive dark spot near the base of its tail.
Key Features:
- A social, bottom-dwelling fish that thrives in groups of at least six individuals of its own species. They are active and enjoy sifting through the substrate for food.
- Temperament - they are very peaceful community fish, compatible with most other non-aggressive species such as tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids.
- Maximum size: 4-6cm
- Ideal water temperature: 22.0°C - 27.0°C
- pH range: 5.5 - 7.5
A fine sand or smooth gravel substrate is essential to protect their delicate, whisker-like barbels, which can be damaged by coarse or sharp gravel.
