Corydoras - Peppered (Corydoras paleatus)
The peppered corydoras is a popular, hardy, and peaceful freshwater catfish native to South America. Known for its distinctive mottled pattern, it is an excellent and active bottom-dwelling fish for community aquariums, suitable for aquarists of all experience levels.
Key Features:
- They are a very peaceful and social species that should be kept in schools of at least six or more individuals to thrive.
- Temperament - they are compatible with most peaceful community fish, including tetras, guppies, rasboras, angelfish, and dwarf cichlids
- Beginner-friendly care level
- Maximum size: 6-7cm
- Ideal water temperature: 20.0°C - 26.0°C
- pH range: 6.5 - 7.5
A soft, sandy substrate is essential to protect their delicate barbels as they forage. Coarse or sharp gravel can cause injury and infection. They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots like driftwood, caves, and large-leafed plants for cover. Floating plants can help subdue bright lighting, which they prefer.
