Cory - Peppered (Hoplisoma paleatum)
The Peppered Cory (Hoplisoma paleatum) is a vibrant, hardy, and active freshwater fish known for its striking olive-bronze body accented by dark, iridescent green markings and a beautiful, glowing metallic sheen. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.
Key Features
- Generally peaceful, but they are active, social, and known to become stressed or reclusive if kept in small groups. Keeping them in a school of at least five or six helps minimize stress and prompts them to display their best natural schooling and foraging behaviors.
- Beginner-friendly.
- Maximum size: 6–7.5cm
- Ideal water temperature: 15.0°C - 24.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.0
They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with open areas for swimming and foraging along the bottom. Smooth sand substrates and shaded areas under driftwood protect their delicate barbels, while providing plenty of hiding spots. A secure lid is recommended as they are capable of darting to the surface for a breath of atmospheric air and can occasionally jump.
