Cory - Orange Venezuelan (Hoplisoma venezuelanum)
The Orange Venezuelan Cory (Hoplisoma venezuelanum) is a vibrant, hardy, and active freshwater fish known for its striking deep-orange coloration accented by a rich, metallic bronze or greenish-black flank patch and a glowing neon-orange hue along its back. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.
Key Features
- Generally peaceful, but they are active, social, and known to become stressed or reclusive if kept in small groups. Keeping them in a school of at least five or six helps minimize stress and prompts them to display their highly playful, energetic schooling and bottom-foraging behaviors.
- Beginner-friendly.
- Maximum size: 5–6cm
- Ideal water temperature: 21.0°C - 27.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.5
They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with open areas for swimming and foraging along the bottom. Smooth sand substrates and shaded areas beneath broad-leafed plants protect their delicate barbels, while providing plenty of hiding spots. A secure lid is recommended as they are capable of darting to the surface for a breath of atmospheric air and can occasionally jump.
