Cory - Napoensis(Gastrodermus napoensis)
The Napo Cory (Gastrodermus napoensis) is a vibrant, hardy, and active freshwater fish known for its striking silver-gold body accented by an intricate mosaic of dark scales and a brilliant, glowing black patch found on the male's dorsal fin. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.
Key Features
- Generally peaceful, but they are active, social, and known to become stressed or reclusive if kept in small groups. Keeping them in a school of at least five or six helps minimize stress and prompts them to display their unique, mid-water schooling and foraging behaviors.
- Beginner-friendly.
- Maximum size: 4–5cm
- Ideal water temperature: 22.0°C - 26.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.4
They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with open areas for swimming and foraging along the bottom. Smooth sand substrates and shaded areas beneath driftwood help protect their delicate barbels, while providing plenty of hiding spots. A secure lid is recommended as they are capable of darting to the surface for a breath of atmospheric air and can occasionally jump.
