Cory - Habrosus (Gastrodermus habrosus)
The Dainty Pygmy Cory (Gastrodermus habrosus) is a vibrant, hardy, and active freshwater fish known for its striking silver-gold body accented by a checkered pattern of dark blotches and a brilliant, glowing metallic green or bronze sheen along its flanks. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.
Key Features
- Generally peaceful, but they are active, social, and known to become stressed or reclusive if kept in small groups. Keeping them in a school of at least six to eight helps minimize stress and prompts them to display their highly playful, energetic schooling and bottom-foraging behaviors.
- Beginner-friendly.
- Maximum size: 3–3.5cm
- Ideal water temperature: 20.0°C - 26.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.5
They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with open areas for swimming and foraging along the bottom. Smooth sand substrates, leaf litter, and shaded areas beneath mosses or broad-leafed plants protect their delicate barbels, while providing plenty of hiding spots. A secure lid is recommended as they are capable of darting to the surface for a breath of atmospheric air and can occasionally jump.
