Cory - Emerald (Corydoras splendens)
The Emerald Green Cory (Brochis splendens) is a vibrant, hardy, and active freshwater fish known for its striking, deep-bodied metallic profile accented by heavy armor plating and a brilliant, glowing emerald-green iridescent sheen that shimmers under the proper lighting. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.
Key Features
- Generally peaceful, but they are active, social, and known to become stressed or reclusive if kept in small groups. Keeping them in a school of at least five or six helps minimize stress and prompts them to display their best natural schooling, active swimming, and bottom-foraging behaviors.
- Beginner-friendly.
- Maximum size: 7–9cm
- Ideal water temperature: 22.0°C - 28.0°C
- pH range: 5.8 - 7.5
They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with open areas for swimming and foraging along the bottom. Darker substrates and dense vegetation help their vivid metallic green coloration stand out, while smooth sand substrates protect their delicate barbels. A secure lid is recommended as they are capable of darting to the surface for a breath of atmospheric air and can occasionally jump.
