Catfish - Otocinclus (Otocinclus Arnoldi)
The Otocinclus (or "Oto cat") is a genus of small, peaceful catfish native to South America, highly valued in the aquarium hobby as a natural algae cleaner. They are known for their sucker-like mouths, which they use to graze on algae and biofilm on various surfaces.
Key Features:
- Peaceful temperament - peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and dwarf shrimp
- Moderate-friendly care level
- Maximum size: 2.5-5cm
- Ideal water temperature: 22.0°C - 26.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.5
Requires live plants, driftwood, and rocks for hiding spots and grazing surfaces. A soft substrate is recommended. Otocinclus are diurnal (active during the day), social, and non-aggressive. They should be kept in groups, or shoals, of at least 3-6 individuals to feel secure.
