Barb - Rosy Neon (Pethia conchonius)
The Rosy Neon Barb (Pethia conchonius), a selectively bred variant of the common Rosy Barb, is a vibrant, hardy, and active freshwater fish known for its shimmering pinkish-red or reddish-orange body and an almost neon glow. It is a popular and excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels due to its easy care requirements.
Key Features:
- Generally peaceful, but they are active, social, and known to be fin-nippers if kept in small groups. Keeping them in a school of at least five or six helps minimize this behavior.
- Beginner-friendly.
- Maximum size: 5-7cm
- Ideal water temperature: 18.0°C - 22.0°C
- pH range: 6.0 - 7.5
They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with open areas for swimming. Hardy plants like Java Fern and Anubias are good choices, as they may nibble on softer-leaved varieties. A secure lid is recommended as they are good jumpers.
