The tiger barb (Puntigrus tetrazona), also known as the Sumatra barb, is a popular, active, and vibrant freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. It is known for its distinctive black vertical stripes on an orange or gold body and its boisterous schooling behavior.
Key Features:
- Tiger barbs are active, mid-water dwelling fish. When kept in small groups, they can be aggressive and nip the fins of other fish. In larger schools (minimum 6-12), aggression is spread among the group, making them suitable for community tanks with appropriate mates.
