A catfish in the Loricariidae family, the Otocinclus is native to South America and can be found across the lowlands from northern Venezuela to northern Argentina east of the Andes. Otos swim in large shoals (or schools) and inhabit well-oxygenated, moderate to slow-flowing streams and small rivers, they are most active in the daytime.
Spending their time in the shallows and using their mouth as a sucker to graze on algae, they will stick to rocks, roots and plant leaves. When you properly house the Oto's they will display lots of movement and personality during the day.
Otos prefer a stable, slightly acidic (6-7.5) to neutral pH and a water temperature between 72-82 ° F (22-28 ° C).
Furnish your tank with plants and carry out weekly water changes of 25-30 per cent to help keep your water as stable as possible.
Otocinclus are social fish which live in shoals of thousands in the wild. You'll need to have at least 6 in your tank, 10-15 would be preferred even more so.
