Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi)
The neon tetra is a popular aquarium fish with a striking red, white, and blue color scheme
- Appearance: Neon tetras are slender, torpedo-shaped fish with a silver-white belly and a light blue back. They have two iridescent stripes that run the length of their body: a blue stripe that runs from the nose to about two-thirds of the way down the body, and a red stripe that starts about halfway down the body and runs to the tailfin.
- Color change: Neon tetras can change the color of their stripes in response to lighting conditions. In the light, the blue stripe appears blue-green, and in the dark, it appears indigo
- Size:Â Neon tetras can grow to be about 4 centimeters long.
- Temperament:Â Neon tetras are peaceful fish that are generally shy and prefer to live in large schools.
- Diet:Â Neon tetras are omnivores that eat a variety of foods, including pellets, flakes, frozen foods, algae wafers, and vegetables.
- Water conditions: Neon tetras prefer water with a temperature of 23–27°C, a pH level of 6.5–7.5, and medium general hardness (100–200 ppm).
- Lifespan:Â Neon tetras can live up to 10 years if kept in the right conditions.
