The Reticulated Hillstream Loach is a fascinating fish of exceptional elegance. The Reticulated Hillstream Loach's unique physical features represent life adapted to fast-flowing streams. The flattened body is a special adaptation, which gives an highly hydrodynamic form to the Reticulated Hillstream Loach. This streamlined body form means that with minimal effort the Reticulated Hillstream Loach can survive (or stay put) in very powerful currents. Furthermore, this very realistic and advanced body form helps accentuate the Butterfly Hillstream Loach 's beautiful wing-like finnage. A friendly fish that makes a perfect choice for freshwater hobbyists searching for rare aquarium residents with proper treatment.
The Reticulated Hillstream Loach, which originates from fast-moving streams of Asia, needs an existing aquarium that replicates the conditions found in those ecosystems. To ensure the safety of the Reticulated Hillstream Loach, it's important to maintain good water quality and aeration plus fast water movement. The use of powerheads will achieve a fast-moving, oxygen-rich climate. Be sure that the airline tubing attached to the inlet at the powerhead draws in fresh air. To maintain a higher dissolved oxygen level, avoid high water temperatures too. The Reticulated Hillstream Loach should not be held continuously above 75 degrees Fahrenheit in a tropical aquarium system. Aquascapes with sufficient quantities of river rocks of varying size and form to mimic a tumbled stream to create natural habitat for the Tiger Hillstream Loach is the ideal. Algae and other food items that grow on or encrust the river rock are an important source of food that provides beneficial foraging activity. To house the Reticulated Hillstream Loach a required minimum tank of 120 litres should be given.
It is not difficult to feed the Reticulated Hillstream Loach, as it accepts most food items small enough to fit in its mouth. As already described, biological matter such as detritus and algae growing on river rock constitutes a significant part of its diet. Supplement the Reticulated Hillstream Loach diet with foods that sink to the bottom of the aquarium such as high quality flake food, sinking carnivorous pellets, sinking algae wafers, freeze-dried bloodworms, and tubifex worms.
