Betta macrostoma is a species of fish belonging to the genus Betta, commonly known as the Siamese fighting fish. This species is native to the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, and it is highly sought after by aquarium enthusiasts due to its unique and striking appearance.

This relatively large species of Betta reaching 12cm in length. The fish is characterized by its elongated body, rounded fins, and a striking coloration that includes a greenish-grey body with horizontal stripes and orange and black fins.

In the wild, this fish inhabits slow-moving streams and ponds with soft, acidic water. They are known to be shy and peaceful fish, preferring to hide among plants and other submerged objects. In captivity, Betta macrostoma requires an aquarium with ample hiding spaces and plenty of vegetation to mimic its natural habitat. This process can take up to three weeks, during which time the male will not eat.

Betta macrostoma is a relatively rare species in the aquarium trade, and as such, it can be hard to source. Due to its high demand, the fish can also be quite expensive. However, with proper care and attention, can be a rewarding addition to any aquarium.

These betta can benefit largely by being kept in a Blackwater Aquarium.

In conclusion, Betta macrostoma is a unique and fascinating species of Betta with its distinctive coloration, elongated body, and mouthbrooding behavior. While it may be challenging to find and care for, this fish can be a worthwhile addition to any aquarium hobbyist’s collection.
